:: Froth and Bubble 2008
As part of our Froth & Bubble Festival for 2008, we will be joining with World Poetry, the Fellowship of Australian Writers and Federation Square in an afternoon of literature.

We have invited Professor Michael Wilding from Sydney and Lorraine Day from Adelaide to be our speakers for the afternoon. Professor Wilding attended Worcester Royal Grammar School, Adam Lindsay Gordon’s old school and was a member of the Adam Lindsay Gordon Poets’ Society whilst there. Lorraine Day is the author of the book Gordon of Dingley Dell.

Presentations will also be made to the winners of our Adam Lindsay Gordon Poetry Competition. The prizes have been kindly donated by Susan Pender, Lorraine Day and Allan Childs. There will also be poetry readings.

The function is from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in The Atrium Federation Square, Melbourne on Saturday 14 June 2008,  and all are invited.

Froth and Bubble

The aim of "Froth and Bubble" is to use the first lines of a verse from one of Adam Lindsay Gordon's famous poems to do two things.

  • To promote Adam Lindsay Gordon to his rightful place as Australia's first poet of note
  • Bring people together to celebrate literature.

"Life is mostly froth and bubble,
Two things stand like stone,
KINDNESS in another's trouble,
COURAGE in your own."

Adam Lindsay Gordon had a great feeling for the sea and the sea-side is a great place to celebrate literature in Australia.

The Adam Lindsay Gordon Commemorative Committee Inc. seek the support of a national Froth and Bubble day held annually on the anniversary of Poet Gordon's death - 24 June.
